Toronto, ON - January 20, 2025 - NLPatent is excited to announce the launch of Non-Patent Literature (NPL) search capabilities integrated into its AI-powered patent research and intelligence platform. The new feature enables users to search more than 160 million non-patent literature documents directly alongside patent data, enabling faster, more complete prior art analysis in a single workflow.

With the addition of this new functionality, NLPatent now supports discovery across a wide range of global sources, including academic journals, books and monographs, industry and market reports, technical standards, dissertations and theses, and conference papers. Users can search using plain English queries, analyze results in context, and view them side by side with patent search results, eliminating the need to jump between multiple databases or external tools. Users can also pair NPL results with Ask NLPatent to instantly expand findings and get expert-level context, helping teams evaluate relevance and next steps faster.

Historically, identifying relevant non-patent literature has required researchers to navigate a fragmented ecosystem of tools, switching between patent databases, academic search engines, keyword-based platforms, and publisher websites. This disjointed process has made prior art research time-consuming and error-prone, often increasing the risk that critical references are missed. NLPatent’s Non-Patent Literature Search addresses this long-standing challenge by bringing patent and non-patent research together in a single, unified experience.

“Prior art doesn’t stop at patents, and now neither do we,” said Stephanie Curcio, Co-founder and CEO of NLPatent. “With non-patent literature available directly in our platform, users can run a complete prior art search without leaving their workflow, making it easier to find relevant, accurate technical information in one simple, integrated experience.”

The launch marks a significant milestone in NLPatent’s mission to become a complete research & intelligence platform, addressing a longstanding challenge for patent professionals, R&D teams, and IP strategists who previously had to rely on fragmented tools such as keyword-based search engines or standalone academic databases.

The new Non-Patent Literature Search capability is available now to NLPatent Premium users worldwide.
